Hunan Embroidery
Hunan embroidery, which is traceable to folk embroidery, boasts a history of more than 2000 years. The earliest piece of embroidery ever found is one with a pattern of dragons and phoenixes, which was unearthed from a Chu Tomb at Changsha in 1958.
The artistic characteristics of Hunan embroidery mainly reflect in its vivid and lifelike figures with strong texture. With a preliminary sketch as the prototype, it performs the artistic re-creation with "needles functioning as paintbrushes" and "threads giving tints", on the basis of painstakingly reproducing the original appearance of the preliminary sketch. The embroidered images not only keep the original brush strokes and beauty of the original sketch, but also by embroidery techniques, add its realness and stereoscopic impression, thus realizing the artistic effects beyond general drawing.
This year witnessed the creation of elaborate "embroidery with a distinct pattern on either side". Famous embroidery include traditional brand hanging screens of “Tiger", "Lion" and "A Hundred Birds Serenade the Phoenix" etc., and "Five Hundred" bedcovers of hundred birds, hundred fish, hundred flowers, hundred children and hundred butterflies, as well as lots of Hunan embroidery of choice with double-sided patterns. As a special favorite of international friends, it sells well all over the world.
